STUDY GUIDE FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN

1. Before you call it a day, study, study, and study some more

Training is the first and most important thing you must do if you want to make a full-time career out of graphic design. Using five Photoshop buttons and three Illustrator buttons is a waste of time. In an ideal situation, you should seek out a reputable school to train you because, while self-teaching can be very effective if you get your information from reliable sources, many people who learned on their own would have undoubtedly incurred costs had someone in their day informed them that “this is done this way” or “This is not valid.” You will advance much more quickly, efficiently, and safely if you surround yourself with competent people who can instruct and push you.

2. Improve your sense of taste

We had already begun discussing the importance of drinking water from reputable sources in the previous point. This is a critical point. You are free to listen to either Don Omar or Bob Dylan because both of their albums are completely legal in this country; however, if you ask a working musician for advice, he or she will most likely recommend that you listen to Dylan rather than Omar. Do you agree that designing is similar to making music in some ways, and that it is therefore critical that your references be of high quality?

3. Borrow like a creative genius

This is the point is the title of a book written by Austin Kleon that you should immediately order from the nearest bookshop if you are going to start learning graphic design at this point. It will cost you no more than ten euros and will give you a general idea of what it is like to work in this world. It could be described as a self-help and inspirational book for designers (yes, sometimes they are necessary). However, it raises an important point: because everything is the result of human ingenuity, the best way to avoid falling into the trap of copying what everyone else does is to look for inspiration in the most basic places possible. Take a little bit from here, and a little bit from there… And through this “stealing,” you will gradually develop your own distinct style. One of the best pieces of advice is to study graphic design.

4. The cover is attentive to the details and takes care of them

You will realize at some point in your professional life that the success of effective graphic design is dependent, to a large extent, on the performance of precise work. Keeping a strict eye on distances, locations, sizes, and measurements… Designing something that is accurate and free of flaws is a scientific rather than an artistic endeavor. Experimentation is obviously something that must be done on a regular basis. However, keep in mind that the design must meet certain requirements, and your client will want to see that those requirements are met by the creative soul that you possess in abundance.

5. Do not allow yourself to become obsessed with your own thoughts

When working and experiencing a surge of divine inspiration, extreme caution is required. It’s not always a good idea. What you think is incredible may not be shared by others. Either that or it is, but it is not the best option for the work you are doing. You must be able to accept criticism, both constructive and destructive (because there are many loose heaters), as well as changes in the way you do things in your profession. Your suggestion is not always the best, and you must be able to recognize when to say, “I’m not here.” There will be times when things do not go as planned. One of the best pieces of advice is to study graphic design.

6. Take in everything around you

The study of graphic design, and especially the vocation of graphic designer, is a major career choice, as are virtually all other career choices. Spending a year in school while supporting oneself financially is a waste of time. Because fashion is always changing, you will need to exercise on a regular basis. What is a brand structure with which you are confident of success now will cause you more frustration tomorrow than saying, “you don’t know, Contreras.” The fact that fashions change in a matter of months, that color palettes fashionable in different parts of the world have nothing in common, and that software is updated every two days are just a few of the factors that contribute to today’s rapid pace of change. As a result, in that case… Even if you don’t live in a pineapple submerged in the ocean, you must be an actual sponge.

7. Reaction time, routine, and consistency of behavior

Every job that requires a certain level of creativity also necessitates a certain level of routine and dedication. First, because creativity is a muscle that must be exercised on a daily basis, and only by working without hurry but without pause on a daily basis will you learn what key you must pay to get it to work when you need it to. Not for nothing, if not for the strange fact that everyone who orders a graphic design task has a very tight deadline, which is always the same as it was the day before yesterday. This is both the reason for and the reason why you should maximize your time: money equals time. You are aware that success necessitates 10% talent and 90% perseverance and consistency. One of the best pieces of advice is to study graphic design.

8. Do not come here if you want to become wealthy

To be a successful designer, you must have a strong interest in design. A substantial amount of vocation. The beginning is difficult because you must work yourself to exhaustion in order to build a strong portfolio, and then work yourself to exhaustion again. After that, if you’re looking for work, it’s highly likely that a job serving hamburgers will pay a little more and require less mental effort from you. As a result, it is up to you to decide whether it compensates you, whether you truly feel fulfilled by your work, and whether this is what fills you up in your life.

Luck!

If you are willing to follow all of these recommendations, you are ready to begin your studies in graphic design. If you find out it isn’t, or if this isn’t something that interests you, listen to the instructors and do one of the following: grow a mustache, sell drugs, or buy a coconut. But … What exactly are we going to talk about with you? That the design is stunning and intriguing, that you are extremely fortunate, and that you never tire of studying, learning, or working, despite the fact that you do a lot of it.
